Dear Parents and Carers

School closure – Friday 18th February 2022

This afternoon we have received notification that the Met Office has issued a ‘red weather warning’ for Bristol and the South West, in effect from 7am until 12 noon tomorrow (Friday 18th February). Extremely strong winds are anticipated, with the potential for damage to buildings and homes, and the risk of flying debris.

Our overriding priority is the health and safety of pupils, parents and staff. Whilst pupils and staff are likely to be safe indoors, there is a significant risk for everyone whilst travelling tomorrow morning.

After consultation with our partners at Bristol City Council, Oasis Community Learning have taken the decision to close all Oasis academies in the region on Friday 18th February, including Oasis Academy John Williams.

We apologise for the late notice of the closures however announcements about the severity of the storm have only just been made. We must ensure that we do not put anyone unnecessarily at risk.

Tomorrow will be a remote learning day, so please do not send your child to school. Learning resources will be available via Teams for Years 7-10 for the lessons they are timetabled for tomorrow. These resources will appear in the chat function of their ‘Class Team’. Year 11 students should use this time to prepare for their mock exams, which continue the week after half term.

Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe during the weather tomorrow morning and I hope you and your family has a wonderful half term break.

Yours sincerely,

Victoria Boomer-Clark
