Staff, students and members of the local community gathered to bury a time capsule at Oasis Academy Bristol on Wednesday 20th January 2010. The event was arranged in celebration of the new building nearing completion and will preserve memories of the past and present while also looking forward in anticipation of continuing positive change.
The site chosen for the Time Capsule is right in front of the new Academy building and marks an important milestone in the building project as the highest point is completed. When the time comes for the Time Capsule to be re-opened, staff and students of the future will be able to see the advancements the Academy has made, as well as learning more about their history.
Contributions to the Capsule were made by the Academy students and staff, some local primary schools and members of the local community. Karen Williams, widow of the late John Williams who was the Academy’s first Principal also made a contribution to the Capsule, providing a brief description of who John was and paying tribute to the passion with which he took his role.
The Capsule will also contain some historic pictures and documents such as street views of Bristol and leaflets detailing the local area as well as some more recent items such as an Academy tie, and a 2009 fashion booklet created by some students.
Rebecca Clark, Principal of Oasis Academy Bristol, said, “We wanted to create something where fond memories can be preserved, but in a way which allows us to look forward to an extremely bright future. Our new building will allow us to not only provide increasingly high-quality learning opportunities for our students, but will also enable us to become a place which provides a wide range of community facilities for all to enjoy.”
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
