Important information for students
On July 10th Oasis Academy Bristol ran a morning of taster sessions in Dance, Drama and Music for twenty one year 6 students from nine local primary schools.
Reception class students visited 'Famer Nick's' Lower Stock Farm in Wrington in March as part of their 'Black and White Wansdyke and the Wider World Week' (WWW).
Academy receives certificates for improvement in GCSE results
On a sunny Sunday Morning on the 13th June a number of Academy staff took part in the Race for Life.
On Wednesday 7th July, the first Oasis Academy Bristol sports day took place.
On Wednesday 16th June The Angels Dance Academy visited Oasis Academy Bristol - reviewed by Chloe Fry (Year 10)
The Oasis Academy Bristol Glee Club, formed just 5 weeks ago, has won the "Most Innovative Project Award 2010".
Paige Williams, aged 15 and currently in Year 10, has just passed her Grade 6 Classical Saxaphone exam with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and has achieved a merit.
We are delighted that the Angels Dance Academy will be based at Oasis Academy Bristol (soon to be Oasis Academy John Williams) from 1 September and students will be able to take full advantage of the fantastic dance studio and theatre in the state of the Art new building.
The Academy will be holding a number of open events in September, October and November.
The students involved in the SEGRO Young Artists project linked to the World of Work attended an exhibition at the Royal Society of Arts in London on Thursday 24th June. The exhibition showcased the work of 12 schools acroos the UK including Oasis Academy Bristol and culminated in an auction of the work on show. Our students managed to sell two pieces of work for £600!
A group of students recently took part in a photoshoot at the Academy for the new prospectus.
Our wonderful new state-of-the-art new building is nearing completion and now all staff and students will have the opportunity to visit between Monday 21 June and Monday 5 July. Students will be advised of the date and time of their visit by tutors.
As the weather is becoming warmer, details regarding blazers is as follows: - Students must wear full uniform, including blazers and smart black shoes at all times around the Academy. When in classrooms and learning environments, staff may give their permission for blazers not to be worn. If students are spending time outside during break and lunch times, they may wish to remove their blazers.
In September 2010 we’re celebrating a new time in our history, with a new building and a new name. As a tribute to our founding Principal, the state-of-the-art school will be re-named, ‘Oasis Academy John Williams’.
Daniel Flay passed his keyboard exam this term with a score of 95%
The last day of term for students will be Tuesday 20 July. The Academy will be closed to students on 21, 22, 23 July. Students return to Oasis Academy John Williams on Monday 6 September. Students will be invited to the Academy on Friday 3 September to introduce them to the new building, meet their tutor and receive timetables. On the 19th of May ,Year 10 students , Ben Mountford, Josh Rich, Jordan Mead and Michael Matthews were lucky enough to go on a mountain bike skills trip offered as a reward for hard work in English.
Students from the Academy took part in a leadership assignment with primary school pupils from New Oak primary school. They planned, designed and carried out a mini sports day.
With brand new facilities, a wide range of courses to choose from and more opportunities for students of all abilities and interests, these are exciting times for the first students joining our Post-16 centre, opening in September 2010.
Students and staff from Oasis and Victoria Park Primary school have been working over the last term to make a brand new caterpillar to go outside Victoria Park Primary school. The caterpillar is a massive 30feet long, so it was a big challenge for us all but the results look great and everyone involved can be proud of their combined efforts!

Staff and students from Oasis Academy have been helping year 1 students from Wansdyke primary school to make their very own 3d cow sculpture to go in their classroom garden! The class visited the local farm and asked us if we could help them to make their own permanent sculpture outside their class. With a bit of group effort, some wood, expanding foam, modroc and plastic bags we are slowly getting there....!
On Thursday 20th May Year 9 BTEC PE students coached Yr 4 students from New Oak primary school in a variety of activities.
Oasis Academy Bristol student, Lucy Collins, has scooped a Special Recognition Award at the inaugural Oasis Community Learning Annual Awards ceremony, held in Birmingham on the 11th May.
Thirty one students from the Academy took part in the Bristol Schools Athletics Championships on Tuesday 19th May.
11 year-old Cirwen Farrant, a student at Oasis Academy Bristol, has won an award for ‘Outstanding Sporting and Cultural Achievement’ at the inaugural Oasis Community Learning Annual Awards ceremony in Birmingham on the 11th May.
Yr 8 & 9 students have been enjoying martial arts sessions during their PE lessons. They been experiencing the art of Ju Jutsu and have thoroughly enjoyed learning about this form of self defence.
Mr Todd and Mr Harris played rugby at Twickenham for Old Reds' against Northern and were in the winning team!
Last week year all students at Oasis Academy Bristol took part in electing their new student leader.
Last week year 7 Opening Minds students were visited by the armed police.
On Thursday 6th May, fourteen Year 10 students held a Top Link Festival, coaching 75 Primary School pupils in a variety of activities.
Victoria Dymond age 15 who is in Year 10 at the Academy entered a competition to draw a picture showing what she knew about England.
Nick Perrot ran his own half marathon on Easter Sunday to raise funds for the trip to Uganda which is taking place at the end of May .
On Wednesday 21st April, students from Oasis Academy Bristol t and Oasis Academy Brightstowe took part in a political debate which was aired as part of the general election coverage on Sky News.
The Circus themed Spring Showcase was a huge success!! The evening started with Arts and Crafts in the Art gym hosted by Rebecca Fitzgerald ,followed by the circus themed showcase .
On Monday the 29th of March the BTEC dance students from year 9 and 10 took part in the '@ Bristol' conference. The students took part in a variety of workshops throughout the day from media to photography. After lunch they performed their 2 jazz dance pieces to Chicago ' all that jazz' and Britney spears 'circus', both inspired by Bob Fosse.

GCSE English students were recently joined by Dizraeli: rapper, writer, poet and singer and UK Poetry Slam Champion. Paige Williams has written the following to document his workshop.
50 year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to work with local photographer and artist Justin Quinnel, to make their own pinhole cameras from old aluminium cans and special photography paper. The cameras will be placed around Knowle West by the students and will develop over 3 months creating a photo that will track the movement of the sun over that time! All photos will be displayed in an exhibition at Knowle West Media Centre and will become part of a book.
Nick Perrott is a year 10 student who along with 4 others is taking part in a trip to visit Oasis Uganda in May 2010. Nick will be running a half marathon on Easter Sunday to raise money for the trip. He has devised his own 13.5 mile route around Bristol. He has already raised in excess of £800!
Charlotte Bateman year 9 will be taking part in a Guides jamboree in Laxenburg in Austria from 2 August until 14th August 2010 along with 8000 guides from around the world. The guides will take part in a number of exciting activities during their stay as well as visit to Vienna and Czechoslovakia.
James has been training for Highlander Kickboxing, once a week, for 8 years, since he was 6 years old. In March 2009, at the age of 13, he achieved his Black Belt, 1st Dan, and is the club's youngest and only child Black Belt. James now helps out with teaching other Junior students and trains for his next competition with the Adult class.
From the 15-19th of March ,students from all years took part in a wide variety of activities to support and raise money for Sport Relief and the Uganda project. A grand total of £450 has been raised so far with more money yet to come!
Scott Taylor recently won a local competition in Knowle West with his composition "last shot". Scott was delighted to receive £80 voucher as his prize.
A well known Theatre in Education company called The Paperbirds came to the Academy to work with KS4 Drama and Music students.
A small group of year 8 students spent a morning learning how to use photoshop to create design work for web and print.
Over the past term, year 7 students have been exploring cultural diversity.
On Saturday 6th March, the Oasis Academy Bristol band played at the Trinity Centre to audition for a chance to play at Glastonbury this year.

Our Family Funday was a great success with over 100 people from the local community taking part in lots of great actvities throughout the day. Children and adults enjoyed all the arts and crafts activities on offer, had a go at the dance routines and the queue never ended for the portraits!

The Academy will be closed for holiday from Monday 15th February to Friday 22nd February. Students should return on Monday 22nd February for registration at 08.30 as normal.
Following the publication of league tables, Steve Chalke has penned a short note to the Academy Community
Oasis Academy art staff have been working with every child from Victoria Park primary to make them a brand new caterpillar to go on the front of their school. Every student from reception class to year 6 has helped to mosaic the 30ft caterpillar, and now Oasis Academy students will complete the project.

Come along to our free family funday on Saturday 13th February, a fun and creative community event for all ages! Take part in one of the many activities going on or take a break and have tea and cake! Have a go at silk marbling, card making, face painting, dancing, clay modelling, get your portrait drawn by one of our art staff or decorate a ceramic heart for a loved one!! Fun and Free!!!!
Oasis Academy has been chosen as the only school in the South West to take part in the SEGRO Young Artists Award programme! A really exciting opportunity for our students to participate in a National scheme with 15 other schools across the country!
Student Leader representatives from all 11 Oasis Academies met in Westminster on the 25th November to get their voices heard!
Oasis Academy Bristol Year 7 boys triumphed at the regional 10-a-side rugby championships held at Broad Plain Rugby Club.
